AION, the venue the island proposes at
AION Santorini is the event venue at the Old Port below Fira where more of our proposals are staged than anywhere else we work. A sea-level terrace over open water, it takes a full production — canopy, candles, florals, dinner — and the caldera stands in as the fourth wall.
Every island has a room the important evenings keep returning to. On Santorini it is not a room at all: it is a white terrace at the Old Port, a few meters above the water, under a bougainvillea pergola and a line of old timber beams. We stage proposals across fifteen locations on this island and publish honest scores for every one of them — and still, fourteen of this season's evenings between late April and mid-July ended at AION, more than anywhere else we work, and the archive they left behind runs past 1,200 frames. What the terrace does that the rim cannot
Everything famous about Santorini is vertical: the caldera from six hundred feet, the sunset over a railing, the crowd at your back. AION turns the geometry on its side. At sea level the water is not scenery below you — it is the floor of the whole scene, close enough to hear. The cliff that other couples are standing on becomes your backdrop, the ferries and cruise ships become moving set-dressing, and the sunset happens at eye level, where a camera can put both of you inside it. The terrace holds a full production without a van needing to reach a hilltop: canopy, aisle, candle stands, florals, a dinner table, a musician. And because the caldera wall stands between the terrace and the meltemi's worst, the drape work that a rim evening has to fight for survives here on nights when the lighthouse is unworkable.
The way an AION evening runs
The set is standing long before you arrive — our crews dress the terrace in the afternoon, and the sequence is the same one every production on this site follows: the photographer in position early, the cue agreed in advance, the question asked before the light peaks. Getting there is part of the design. The Old Port sits directly below Fira town, reached by the cable car or by boat, so the walk in can be staged as an ordinary harbor stroll right up to the moment the terrace opens up. Nobody carries a secret up a cliff path.
The venue takes the sunset-built evening as naturally as it takes a dinner after the yes — and when the plan is a wedding rather than a question, the same floor holds a ceremony and a long table without changing its character.
What we will not claim about it
AION is a venue, not our property, and this page is our working record of it rather than an advertisement for it. Venue hire is never folded invisibly into a package figure — it is quoted separately at cost, the way every number we publish behaves. And if your evening actually belongs somewhere else — a bare cliff at Akrotiri, a terrace nobody can see, a boat — we will say so, because the location file outranks any venue's photogenic terrace, including this one.

Is AION private for a proposal?
When we stage an evening there, the terrace is set for one couple: one set, one table, one question. Every AION evening in our own archive is a single production. It is a venue rather than a private residence, so the water traffic of the Old Port passes below — which is part of the theater, not a compromise of it.
What does the wind do at sea level?
Less than it does on the rim. AION sits at the foot of the caldera wall, and the cliff takes the worst of a meltemi afternoon before it reaches the water. We still plan every evening against the same exposure scores we publish for every location, and the drape and candle plan is chosen for the day's forecast, not the brochure's.
Can AION hold a wedding rather than a proposal?
Yes — the same terrace takes a ceremony and a long table, and the guest-count logistics are the ones the micro-wedding page walks through. The venue's own hire is quoted separately at cost, exactly as the wedding cost guide prints it.
